Links from Word to a Cell in Excel

I cannot accept the possibility that there is not a way to do this. Al
I want to do, is this:

I have a long manual in Word. It contains a lot of text. I would lik
some of the text to link to a 'specific' cell in Excel. Hyperlink
don't work, bookmarks don't work, but this seems like something shoul
work....

Hi Frustrated Word User,

Copy the range from Excel, switch to Word, Use Edit|Paste Special and click on the 'paste link' option, then click your preferred
paste format and 'OK'.
