links in email

When I attempt to open a link in an email, an "animated colored ribbon"
scrolls across the top of the page and it takes a long time to open the link.
Is this some sort of security scan? How do I disable this feature. Thank
you.

No, it is just a "waiting line" while your default browser is being started.
The startup time of the browser heavily depends on the amount of add-ins you
have installed for your browser. Also, there could indeed be a security scan
be going on but that would be coming from your virus scanner/security suite
then.
