Links within Word Changing when save

Our Web Developers created a document that contains many links throughout
that link to another document on the server. However, upon saving the
document it changes the link to point to their hard drives rather than the
network location that actually pasted in. They are using 2003. When trying
this on a new document, it works fine.

I have 2007 and changed their links in the document and it saved correctly.
Is there some sort of setting in theirs with 2003 that could be changing
these links when they save?

Tools > Options > General > Web Options > Files > Uncheck 'Update links on
save'
