list numbering

I have a huge document over 350 pages and w/graphics and 3
levels on numbering, eg. 1. then a)... then i)... I have
even created their own styles and have based them on NO
STYLE but....... it still jams and refuses to restart
numbering again...

so... i then create a new style...

any thoughts as to what else i can do???
