List numbering

I use styles for numbered lists. But when I've made one list in a document, and start a new list, assigning the numbering style, the numbering don't start at no1 which I want it to. I know that I can choose *Format - Bullets and Numbering* and make the numbering start from 1. But can I do this stylewise?
