List of objects freezes

I notice that while developing a system, the list of objects (tables, forms,
reports, etc) frequently freezes and I can't select a specific object. I can
unfreeze this list if I switch to a different kind of object and then go back
to the list of objects I was originally viewing. Is this a normal situation?
How can I prevent the object from freezing up? I am running Access 2003.
