List Validation from Windows to Mac

I have created a template in Windows Office 2003 that contains list validation to defined references (such as "=shipto" or "=customer") in other workbooks and other sheets. When opened in Office for Mac 2004 the data validation doesn't work. It simply gives a blank dropdown box. What's the issue here? How can I fix it??

A little more information please. On the mac, do you open these other
workbooks also? Is the link evident in Edit-Links? What is the definition
for shipto or customer in the Mac worksheet?

It appears that Excel for Mac requires that the validation list be on the
same worksheet as the drop down list unlike Excel for PC's where the
validation list can be on a separate worksheet. I have searched for a fix
or work around, but have yet to find a resolution to this issue.
