ListBox/input box in detail section 'on format' event

Hello, MVPs, and thanks for all your help!

There is a report that is being migrated from Crystal Reports so that
the report will be available with the database. We run a sql server
2000 backend with an a2k front end and have been traditionally using
crystal as the reporting engine. This is my first foray into access
reporting and after 6 years of crystal, the last couple months of
access reports have not been the most intuitive to learn about or
build--one report (1 main, 3 subreports) have driven my coach over the
edge...

The problem with the report I am working on, is that in the detail
section of an order activity report, there are 3 listboxes for the
purpose of listing devices associated with the activity and trying to
detect whether they have data. If there is no data, then the user is
prompted for input, otherwise, just run the report. From debug, it
appears that the listboxes during format do not contain data and always
wind up offering the prompt.

First question is, is there a text that can help explain the
differences between CR and Access reports? Something a little more
indepth than Access Help and will take less time than fumbling around
on an ng...

Second question, in the meantime, is there a way to do what is
intended? Detect whether any one of the listboxes has data so that the
prompt is only triggered when there actually is no data as opposed to
data that hasn't populated yet?

Thanks and Regards,

Eric
