LISTNUM fields increase document size?

B

Barbara White

Using Word 2000 on Windows 2000.

We've inherited a Word file that contains several hundred LISTNUM
fields. (The author chose to format rows in a table with the LISTNUM
field.)

The document is only about 60 pages--it contains a few hundred tables
and one simple figure.

However, the Word file is 1.5MB and takes a huge amount of time to
print. When we convert it to PDF, it becomes nearly 4MB. This doesn't
seem right to me given the length of the file and the simplicity of the
layout. The tables could be causing the problem, but I've worked with
Word files that use lots of tables -- I haven't seen such poor
performance before.

I've never worked with a file that used LISTNUM so much. I wonder if the
repeated use of this field could cause the performance problems described.

If you have information about this, please let me know.

Thanks so much.

Hi Barbara,

Have you tried to delete the picture, to see if this reduces the file size
significantly?
I doubt that the listnum fields are to blame...
If you want to, you can mail me the document privately. Though 60 pages with
hundreds of tables and a picture doesn't seem unlikely to clock in at 1.5
MBytes.

Regards,
Klaus
