LISTNUM Question

I set up a LISTNUM field, in order to restart numbering, after reading the
article "Restarting List Numbering Using LISTNUM Fields." I followed the Help
instructions to Insert a Field and selecting categories, field names, field
codes and options. The LISTNUM field resembed this: LISTNUM \l 1 \s 0 and I
pressed OK.

In my document, Word inserted a bullet of all things instead of renumbering
the list. I am wondering what else I have to do in order to get the LISTNUM
set up properly? Any ideas?

Did you make sure to place the field in the numbered item after which you
want to restart numbering? This is important because the LISTNUM field (when
no list name is specified) affects the "current" list, which could be a
bulleted one.

Also, to prevent the LISTNUM field from showing a result in the document,
format it as hidden or in white text, as explained at
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/numbering/listrestartbylistnum.htm.

Thank you very much, Stefan. I did not have the cursor positioned within the
number item, but will try that!

You are welcome.

And if you don't get it to work, post back. :)

Stefan,

Thank you so much ~ This worked great! The reason it did not work well on
the first try was that there was a list of bullets following the last step
and I positioned the cursor after the bulleted list. Repositioning the cursor
up in the actual numbered item was just what I needed to do. I appreciate
your help!
