Live Local Add-In

Yama

Hi,

I have Windows XP SP2, IE 7.0 SP2, Offcie 2003 with the latest critical
patches. After installing the Live Local Add-in then restarting my PC I
tried creating a new appointment; however, although the "Location" tab was
successfully implemented the entire "Location" tab was disabled. Previously
when I had installed the beta version of the same Add-In the "Location" tab
worked. When the released version was available I decided to uninstall the
beta version then install the newly available version of the Live Local
Add-in. But it is now disabled. Can anyone help me with getting it running?

By the way everything on my computer was retail purchased and therefore
valid installs.

Thanks,

Yama

I am having the same problem. When I go into COM Add-Ins under advanced
options and select the add-in, it is unselected when I return back to COM
add-ins. Does anyone know the issue, it seems to me to be quite common.

Yama,

"Matt" helped me out on a post I had made regarding the same issue, give it
a try, it might work for you.

Curious,
What other add-ins do you have installed with Windows Live Local for
Outlook? Other add-ins seem to lock this one out a lot.

One approach to get this add-in working for some friends is:

Go to Tools->Options
Select the "Other" tab
Click Advanced Options
Click COM Add-In Manager
Select Windows Live Local for Outlook
Click Remove.
Now Click Add
Browse to <system drive>\program files\windows live local for outlook
Select LEOAddInShim.dll
Ok your way back to the main Outlook window.

I've got Outlook 2003 installed on a Windows XP SP2 machine with Windows Live
Local Add-in installed and set up. It USED to work; now I can only find
destination locations (on the Locations tab of an appointment); the starting
location does not work at all, and I cannot get directions or travel time,
since I cannot set a starting location.

The file referred to in Matt's post does not exist on the computer, and the
add-in is not named "Windows Live Local for Outlook." It is named "Live
Search Maps for Outlook." I may be totally confused, but I thought I was
keeping things pretty up-to-date and am having one heck of a time trying to
get any troubleshooting information at all from Microsoft's KB or user
groups. Any help possible is accepted with undying gratitude.

Go figure. After I posted, I found a folder named "Live Search Maps" (vs.
Live Local), found one or two files with filenames starting "LEO..." as Matt
pointed out (though not the file he specified), clicked on one of them quite
inadvertently in the process of "adding" another add-in
(Options/Other/Advanced/COM Add-ins/Add). Nothing was added to the list of
add-ins, but now the maps are working--or at least they were a second ago. I
wish I knew what I actually did so I could be of some use here...

When it comes to Outlook, figuring out what you did to get it to work is worthy of a master's degree. We MVPs just thank the Outlook gods and move on, most of the time.

Then there are those of us who actually know what they are doing.

After furious head scratching, John B asked:
