.lnk files

When I send a Word file .doc as an e-mail attachment, it changes to .lnk
file, which the recipient can't open. The problem only started a couple of
days ago, and I have no idea why. How can I change my settings so that
attachments will stay as .doc files? I use AOL, btw.
