Load Resource Summary Assignments

S

Serge Locas

I created a project “Resource Usage Plan†on our project server 2003
containing no task and all the resources of our organization (75 resources).

When I start Msproject 2003, I checked “Load Resource Summary Assignmentsâ€
check box and I open my “Resource Usage Plan†project.

Through a Resource Usage view, this approach will show me on which projects
my resources are assigned, and this exactly the result obtained, except for
one thing.

I can not see the Actual Work performed by my resources. It shows only the
Work. Consequently, the Remaining Work is also invalid in that view.

Is there a solution to that problem?

Try right clicking on the right pane where the work is displayed. You should
be able to add: Actual Work, Cumulative Work, Overallocation, Cost, Remaining
Availability

When I right clik on the right pane, I am able to add the Actual Work field
but it is still containing no values.

In the future, please post your Project Server questions to the
microsoft.public.project.server newsgroup, as this newsgroup is devoted to
the Microsoft Project desktop application only. To answer your question, to
see the Actual Work in other projects, you must open each of the other
projects. This is a limitation of the Project Server environment. Hope
this helps.

Thanks Dale,

So, If we have 75 projects in our Project Server Database, I need to open
each of those 75 Projects. Very Weird for an EPM solution.

Serge,

In an effort to let Dale rest his typing fingers, let me add a couple
comments...

In order to view the actuals in the resource usage view within project
professional, Dale has told you exactly what you need to do. But if we step
back a moment and ask the question "what are you trying to accomplish?" then
the answer could be quite different. The fact that you created a project
work plan that has no tasks that is called "Resource Usage Plan" implies
that you are looking to obtain visibility into where the resource are
spending their time across up to 75 projects. In the EPM environment, you
wouldn't be viewing this cross-enterprise information within Project
Professional, you would be using PWA -- perhaps slicing the information
within Portfolio Analyzer views. It really depends on what you are trying
to accomplish, but I'm pretty sure that Project Pro isn't where you want to
be.

Hope this helps.

explanation to Serge. :)

Thanks John M.

I need to know on a weekly basis on which projects the IT resources are
spending their 37,5 Hrs.

The Portfolio Analyzer does not give me actual work on a weekly basis,
unless I try to extend the OLAP Cube.
