Loading an Excel file created in 2000 into a Word 2003 Document

I am trying to open a spreadsheet created using Office Excel 2000 in Word
2003. When I open the file in Word the $ signs and commas do not show up.
Some files created in Office 2000 however, will trasnfer with no problems to
Word 2003, but some do not.

Any ideas?
