Loading and startup errors with Office 2003 and Vista

I have happily used Microsoft excel 2003 with my PC for years. I recently
bought a laptop with Vista home premium and installed my copy of MS office
2003, and now none of the applications work.

Excel will open and allow you to create new files, but if you try to load
any files it freezes and stops responding. Powerpoint will also open and
create a new file, but it will not open any older files. Word will not open
at all.

Does anyone have any solutions to this problem? Microsoft claims Vista and
2003 are compatible, but I've had no success so far.

They are compatible;
Were any Office trial edition installed , that you failed to remove first?
What is shown in Event Viewer, or Vista's equivelent?

This was a brand new laptop, so there were no trial versions or any other MS
Office software on it until I did the first install. o I don't think any
pre-existing software caused the problem.

I just fixed the problem by reinstalling MS Office. I'm glad the solution
was so easy, although I wish I knew what the problem was... I also
uninstalled a trial version of Norton Anti-virus shortly before reinstalling
MS Office, perhaps the Norton was interfering somehow...

Regardless, the problem seems to be fixed, and unless it comes back, I
should be ok. Thanks for your help!
