Loading file in Word 2003 from Explorer is SLOW! 25 seconds!

Starting a new thread hoping to catch some MS attention--

I have a 2.8 GHz, 7200 RPM disk, 512 MB mem machine.

If I click on a 30K doc file in explorer it takes 18 - 25 seconds to load
word 2003 and the file.

If I quit that and immediately try to load ANOTHER file, it loads and
displays in 2 or 3 seconds.

If I quit THAT one and try to load a 3rd file, it takes 18-25 seconds again.

This is curious and frustrating behavior. i don't have Norton Anti-Virus
running and have no Word add-ins.

I have completely removed and reinstalled Word 2003 twice.

All other programs load and operate normally. A 200 page PDF file loads into
Adobe Acrobat in 5 seconds or so. Word itself, when clicking the Word icon,
loads in a second or so. Inside word, the same doc files mentioned above
load in 1 or 2 seconds.

If there's a MS Word guru here, please reply. I just can't find the answer.

Thanks for your help--

Very few folks from MS frequent this newsgroup, and sadly the few who do
generally less than MVPs. By starting a new thread, you are omitting the
details of all the things you've tried or that have been suggested before.

suggested before.
