After loading the second service pack for MS Office 2003 Professional, the
subtotal function in Excel no longer works. Uninstalling MS Office, and then
reinstalling without the service pack makes the subtotal function work. The
function fails to work as described in KB212099, KB178679, and KB178679;
which is to say with multiple level or nested subtotals for data, the totals
appear in incorrect order (are staggered incorrectly) and exclude grand
totals for some functions
