Loading Office on a new machine

I have Office 2000 Pro. I have a new machine and want to
load Office on it. When I started the CD, it tellw me
that it can't find another version of the program. does
that mean I have to load the earlier verison first and
then load this version?

I have Office 97 Pro also. I have XP Home on my new
system. I didn't think this was an upgrade. Thanks.
