loading one note on HP Ipaq Personal PC

I would like to be able to run One Note on my PPC and have it share notes
taken to my laptop-Windows XP operating sytem.
At the moment I am just using the trial version to see if it will suit my
needs. Do I have to load it onto the Ipaq as well? And if so how do I do that?

Hi Anne,

OneNote 2007 will include a mobile version for PPC. Which Windows
version is your PPC?
OneNote 2003 doesn't support anything like this. OneNote 2007 is
currently in beta.

it's Windows Mobile version 5.0- is that what you need to know? I have only
recently bought the PPC so I hope that is is the most up to date???

Hi Anne,

Yes. Windows Mobile 5 is the newest one. You'll be able to use that with
OneNote 2007 Mobile. OneNote Mobile by the way does not support pen
input, it is keyboard only. The reason is that it was originally
designed for smartphones (which don't have a pen) and only due to
massive user requests during the first beta phase was adopted to also
work on pocketpcs.

Thanks for that information Patrick. I do appreciate the information that you
have given me as it really helps me in terms of making a decision whether to
use Onenote at this stage. It's very disapponting to know that I won't be
able to use the pen option as that is the way I enter most of my notes on the
PPC. I touch type on the laptop but find that on the PPC it is much quicker
to write. Do you think that at some stage the pen option will become
available?
thanks again

Hi Anne,

Not for OneNote 2007. That means it might be in the next version of
OneNote, which is 3-4 years away from today.
Microsoft really reacted to user feedback by making it available on the
PocketPC. Almost everyone who heard about the SmartPhone application
back in Beta 1 in November asked immediately: can I install it on my
PocketPC?
On the other hand, Microsoft wrote the tool by utilizing the new OneNote
2007 developer API. That means that any 3rd party could write a similar
tool with pen support. I haven't heard of any company though that might
be developing such an application.

This post just made me VERY happy. It's the only thing I thought was missing
from OneNote, being a PPC freak. But I want to make sure I understand the pen
limitation: does that mean i won't be able to make drawings in OneNote
Mobile? Will I still be able to use all the normal input methods like
Transcriber?

Oh, I don't suppose you have an ETA for OneNote 2207, do you? ;-)

thanks for making my day.

Hi Pierre,

I don't know whether you can make drawings or not. My PocketPC is 2002
and that OS is not supported (Windows Mobile 5 is supported, in some
cases 2003 works, I forgot in which though).
I would assume that the normal input methods will work.
ETA for OneNote 2007? January 2007 is the target time Microsoft for the
release of the OEM & consumer version. Business customers (volume
license customers) get it 1-2 months earlier.

I have an iPaq running on PPC 2003. I have just upgraded to ON 2007 from the
2003 version so that I can take advantage of the feature which allows me to
sync with my iPaq. When I tried to install the software, however, I received
an error message on my PPC - "...Microsoft Office OneNote [Beta]. CAB is not
a valid Winows CE setup file"

Does this mean that ON 2007 doesn't operate with PPC 2003??? Or is there
something I can do?

Hi David,

OneNote Mobile requires at least Windows Mobile 2003 2nd Edition on a
Smartphone, but at least Windows Mobile 5 on a PocketPC.
So it won't work with yours.

The documentation is very misleading since it is not clear that it is only
smartphones that are Windows Mobile 2003 no Pocket PCs. In addition, if you
have a device like the IMATE JAM which is a phone - that still counts as a
pocket PC. There is a 3rd party app from laymanaidsoft.com that will make the
one note app tun on windows 2003 pocket pc however.

Aloha Pierre,

No drawings in OneNote Mobile 2007 but all your normal text input methods
should work. Patrick has it right - OneNote 2007 is scheduled to be available
for retail around January.
