Loading page 1... post-processing shapes... hang error

Carol in WI

I'm running Visio 2000 and have an org chart file that has been saved and
opened successfully in the past. Out of the blue when I try to open the file,
I get the message "Loading page 1... Post-processing shapes..." in a pop-up
box that hangs forever until I enter Bill Gates' password (CTRL ALT DEL) to
stop it. Last time this happened, I made a totally new file. Now that file is
giving me the same problem. Other Visio files open successfully.

Does anyone know how I can get the file to open? Is it some kind bug?

Sounds like file corruption, especially if it worked at one time. Unless
it's consitently reproducable and you have steps to get to the problem it's
probably not a bug. But it's hard to say. I'd like to say call support but
Visio 2000 is no longer supported, especially if it's pre-SR1. All support
for Visio 2000 was retired at the end of calendar year 2004 (source --
http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=2962).

You may want to try opening the drawing on another machine with Visio 2000
or a different version. Beware that if it's saved as a 2003 drawing or
higher it can't be opened in 2000, and the org chart will likely look a
little different in newer versions. With that said, there is a 60-day trial
for Visio 2007 if you're interested. Also beware, by default Visio 2007
setup will detect and remove previous versions of Visio if you don't
customize the install by clicking the Customize button. But as long as you
have the full license for Visio 2000 you can always re-install it after the
trial expires...remove the 2007 trial and re-install 2000.
