Local Area Connection : Access is denied.

I have Win-2000 Advanced Server running on a server box and somehow I have
managed to get it all up and running. (ONCE) I have 3-workstation boxes (1
XP-Pro and 2-Win-2000) connected to the Server on the second network card and
the first network card is connected to the Internet and sharing the Internet
with the rest of the network.....
NOW - all of the workstation Local Area Network connections are set-up the
same (obtain ip address automatically) - - - WHY will one of the Win-2000
boxes connect fine while the other Win-2000 box and the XP-Pro box both now
get an ERROR when trying to connect to the network? If I use the CMD window
and do a ipconfig /renew I see the Error ..... Access is denied. If I try to
Repair the Network Connection I see and error and an Event Viewer / System
Error is generated that says "The IP address lease 0.0.0.0 for the Network
Card with network address 0004230E6F38 has been denied by the DHCP server
192.168.0.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message)."
CAN anyone give me a clue as to why one of my workstation boxes connects
fine and the other two can't get in???
Thanks in advance,
Paul

SORRY - I thought I was in the right area - NOW that Vista is here - they
seem to have completely dropped Win-2000 - I'll keep looking for the Win-2000
forums area...

Hi, Paul.
NOW that Vista is here - they
seem to have completely dropped Win-2000 - I'll keep looking for the
Win-2000
forums area...

It's hit or miss unless one explores the menu tree or "knows" it's filed
under Servers. I found it under English -> Servers -> Networking -> Windows
2000 Networking on the following Web page:

I'm not a network specialist but obviously, trying to get the IP address
0.0.0.0 is an incorrect move because 0.0.0.0 is not a valid address.

Instead of setting the IP address automatically, you should try setting your
machine to get a fixed address in the range 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.50; for
exemple 192.168.0.2 or .3. Before doing this, use the « ipconfig /all »
command on the machine that is able to connect to not use the same IP
address as this machine.

Make sure also that this machine has an address of the type 192.168.0.X ; if
not, then use the same kind of address for the other machines. For example,
if the right address is 192.168.1.2, then use 192.168.1.3, .1.4 and .1.5 for
the other machines. Make sure also that they are using the same SubNET;
particularly if it's not 255.255.255.0.

Each time you try something new, take the precaution of rebooting first the
machine and then both the machine *and* the server if the new setting
doesn't work before trying something else.

With a small network as this, you should always use static ip addresses.

I am facing the same problem receiving error:

The IP address lease 192.168.1.4 for the Network Card with network address
001A920276F4 has been denied by the DHCP server 0.0.0.0 (The DHCP Server sent
a DHCPNACK message)

The question now arises why only microsoft products have these problem, I am
having dual boot system with Via 8251 chipset and I use DHCP even on fedora 6
and everything work fine on linux. Its only with Microsoft products that
there is so much of dependices, wired error messages. An simple installer
cannot be run if IE version is not greater than 6. What the hell. 2000 did
not shipped with IE 6. The worstest part that I can say is after installing
the whole system, I have to use opera to download IE 6?
Do I need to provide static IP to the system?

I'm not sure if there is a question out there but obviously, the DHCP server
cannot have the address 0.0.0.0. You should take a look at this DHCP's
address problem or provide the station with an IP static address to
circumvent it.

Don't forget that's also possible that the MAC address 001A920276F4 has been
assigned a specific static address from/on the router or - if you are on a
LAN or have subscribed to a VPN - that the address 192.168.1.4 has already
been assigned to another device.
