local cache says checked out or pending

I have some users that they have to clear their local cache on a daily basis,
otherwise it thinks their project(s) is/are still checked out. I have sat
with them and when we are together everything works fine. I have shown, told
and documented for them about not closing out project until they see the Save
complete in the status bar. Is there anything else that may be causing this
issue?

Thanks,

What you are seeing is the continuing struggle with Local Cache issues. To
minimize these problems, we recommend that users do the following:

1. After you save the project the final time, wait until you see the
confirmation message in the status bar at the bottom of the application
window.
2. After you publish the project the final time, wait until you see the
confirmation message in the status bar as well.
3. Close the project using File - Close, and then confirm that the system
should check in the project.
4. Wait around 5 seconds for the Local Cache to finish its check in
gyrations.
5. Click File - Exit to close the application.

Short of a bug fix from Microsoft for this continuing problem, the above
steps are nothing more than workarounds, and will not eliminate all of these
Local Cache problems. Hope this helps.

Just to add to Dale's great post,

I have found that at times the .DAT file (I think it is the .DAT) gets
corrupted as well and once that happens, even following the steps provided by
Dale, some projects always show checked out or check in pending. To eliminate
this I have deleted the files in the Cache folder. Do Not Delete the Cache
folder, but delete the contents inside the cache folder. When you restart
Project Pro it will create a new .DAT file in the Cache folder and the check
in pending or checked out issue goes away until the next time you fail to
follow the proper steps.

Thanks Dale and Darrell!

I am telling the users to follow those steps and of course when I sit next
to them and hold their hand they remember. Short of a camera watching their
every move guess I'll just keep cleanning up after them. :)

I wasn't clear previously on the reason to clear out the folder, but now
that you explained it this way Darrell, I will do it on those users that the
issue doesn't go away on.

Thanks again!
