Local Cache

Jay

Hi there;

Some people are still confused as to when clear the cache and not to? I had
a look at all the blogs and microsoft articles around cache..... But is it
save to remove a project from the local cache and when according to best
practices?

What should the "size" be of a local cache according to best practices?

Please advise and thank you..

Jay you can always clear the local cash, as long as you have saved your
project you will be able to retrieve your project from the server.

The cash still doesnt work to 100% even after the SP1 and Infrastructure
update, somethimes the local cash needs to be cleared. I made it a habit to
always retrieve my projects from the server directly to avoid cashing
problems.

I dont think that there is a best practise of how much space you should give
the local cash. I always leave the default.

Jay:

I want to add a caveat to Marc's adice. It is not safet to clear the local
cache when you have a project in an "offline" state. While working with a
project offline, you will lose any changes to project if you do not first
connect to Project Server and save the changes to the server. If you do not
have projects in an offline state, you can clear the cache without a second
thought. Understand that this only affects open times as once the
syncronized copy of the project is removed from the cache, the project
client must retrieve the data from the server.
