Local Resources Getting To ERP

J

Jim Sipe

Running Project Server/Professional 2007 with current service packs.

We are seeing a situation where Local Resources are getting into the
Enterprise Resource Pool. Is anyone else seeing this and can this be
prevented. This is causing considerable confusion.

Jim --

If a Project Server administrator is importing a local project into the
Project Server database using the Import Project Wizard, then this is
probably how the local resources are getting into your Project Server system
as enterprise resources. Here's how it happens:

1. Launch Project Professional 2007 and connect to Project Server with
Administrator permissions.
2. Click Tools - Enterprise Options - Import Project to Enterprise.
3. Select a local project and then click the Open button.
4. Click the Map Resources link.
5. In the Map Project Resources onto Enterprise Resources dialog, map local
resources onto enterprise resources and click the OK button.

If you leave at least one local resource as a local resource, on the Confirm
Resources page, you will see the local resource in the Import Resource grid
on the right. Examine the value for the local resource in the Import
column. The default value is YES, which means the system will import the
local resource as an enterprise resource! GRRR! Change the Yes value to No
and then continue on with the Wizard.

Hope this helps.

Jim:

Local resources can't find their way into the ERP on their own, so someone
is taking an action that places them there. Can you provide some history on
this? Steps to reproduce? Can you tell where the local resource came from
and then ask the PM what they did to make this happens. For instance, it is
possible to import local resources with the correct permissions.
