Local resources in Project getting entered into Enterprise Pool

Donna

Hi -

I have had a few projects where Project Leads have entered some generic
resouces that were local to a project. Most recently ?? was listed for a few
tasks.

When the project was published ?? got added to the enterprise pool.

Has anyone seen this?
Is there any setting that we can set to prevent this.

Sure,

make sure the PMs don't belong to a group which gives them the category
permission "Edit Enterprise Resource Data"

Hi Donna,

Two things I would check in this case

1. Is the category of those project managers has the option called
"New Resources" enabled?
2. On the project schedule's resource sheet view, double click on
those resources and check if the workgroup is set to Default or MS
Office Project Server. In this case I would change it to None.

The first way would remove the capability of users creating a
resource on resource pool, usually this would be enabled for admins/
resource managers. But then if you do first case and don't do second
case, this would throw spooler error when they publish the project
plans. So try to do both these. Hope this helps!

When specifying your queries please let us know what version of
Project Server you are using.

Thanks,
Ravi.

Hi Ravi
Sorry - we are on Project Server 2007

I did look on the resource sheet view - I double clicked as you suggested -
but I didn't see 'work group'

We do have a security category for Project Leads / resource managers
(sometimes one and the same) -- this does allow them access into the resource
center - this is how they are to manage skill sets, setting working time
off, etc. I will check with IT to confirm if that also allow them to add new
resources. I am not sure.

If you can provide me more guidance on the work group - I can see if I can
fix that setting.

Appreciate the help!

Project Leads are not allowed to enter New Resources.

So why would a publish of a new project - put local resources into the
enterprise pool?

Are there any other configuration settings that we should check?

Did you ever resolve this, I seemingly have the same situation - where a
local resource is just being published along with the enterprise resources
(Project 2007 Server)?

No - never got a response back once I reponsed with Project 2007 and
attempted to follow instructions.

Hi Donna
I have also seen local resources inadvertently drawn into the resource pool. When you do an import project and use the wizard, you see a Map Resources dialog. Suppose you opt to keep the local resources and not map them to enterprise resources. When you finish with the Map Resources dialog, a Validate Resources screen is displayed. In the Import column, select No if you don't want the resources added to the Enterprise Pool. I had originally thought Import meant import resource with project, but it apparently means import to resource pool
