Local Resources in Template

S

S. Persoon

Hello all,

In EPM2007 we created several project templates in which all resources of a
team are already allocated to the project. This should make it easier for
team leads to plan a project. In this way they do not have to allocate all
resources when they set up a new project.

When a team leads creates a new project based on one of the templates the
enterprise resources we added in the template became local resources. Does
anybody know what is happening here? Are we doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Regards,
Sylvester.

Hello Ben,

Thanks for the reply. Yes I saved the templates to the project server as
template (in the save dialogue box, as type we selected template. We open the
template by clicking File / New / Templates / On my Computer / Enterprise
Templates).

Regards,
Sylvester.

i've not seen this issue before. If you open the template, are the resources
local or enterprise?

Assuming local, can you replicate it. if so, you've got a bug.
If enterprise, and you file|save as a project and publish, and they become
local, again, you've got a bug.

please let us know how you get on.

When we open the template the resources became local resources. We can
replace them by enterprise resources via the Build Team feature. I think we
indeed got a bug over here. I have not found a solution yet, but I will let
you know if I have the answer.

Thanks and regards,
Sylvester.

Hi, I couldn't recreate your issue, the template for me opened with the
enterprise resources intact. As previously stated, it is the 1st time I have
come across this issue, so I think it might be something specific to your
install.

How did you create the template? If you created it online (while attached to
the server) this will not happen. If you created this outside the server,
then you need to use the Import Wizard and map the local resources to the
enterprise and save it as a template.

Hey All,

Ghrrrrrrrrrr, Ghrrrrrrrrrr and Ghrrrrrrrrrrr

I have the same exact problem, I create a new plan (while cconnected to the
server), i build the team from Enterprise, assign resources (standard
resources not cost) save the plan as a template - up to this point if you
check the resourecs they are still enterprise - then close project pro, open
it again start a new project from the template and there where I get me
resources changed to local resources!!!!!

I have done everything that I have in mind but nothing worked, don't know
what to do more.

I can confirm the above observations. Though an irritant it is not
really a problem, when you first save a plan created from a resourced
template, MSP 2007 asks you to click to replace local resources with
equivalent enterprise resource, click yes and no longer a problem
(minor training issue)

Mike
