Local Resources vs Enterprise Resources

Prasanna Adavi

We are using MSPS 2007 + SP2 + Decmeber CU.

We have some projects where we have some local resources. These are generic
resources like Site Resources, Developer group etc., at this point for this
division, there is not requirement to look at the availability etc for these
generic resources. The updates in the project for these resources will be
done by the project manager through MSProject Client.

So, my question is that are there any known issues of using Local Resources
in Enterprise Project Plans? Is it some kind of best practice to have every
resource as an enterprise Resource, Generic or otherwise?

Hello Prasanna,

That's a good question and it just depends. Be aware that it is not a
shared resource, so other projects can not use the local resource. Which may
be ok. It's primary purpose is to assign a resource to a task that doesn't
need to be in the resource pool. Maybe you need a "Key Maker" contractor
resource for only this project.

You could use a generic resource, but I think of them primary for planning
purposes.

So, it's ok for the right situations.

Cheers!

Hi Prasanna,

Using local resources as you describe in your enterprise environment will
not cause any issues, and is a valid way of using the system.
