Local Web vs Remote Web discrepancies.

Why can I see folders such as '_themes' in the remote web pane in
FP, but I can't see the corresponding folders in the local web?

However when I look at the remote web via windows explorer, my network
places there they are.

I've hit the refresh button several times, and existed and restarted
FP, all to no avail.

I've tried publishing from the remote web to the local web, but I get
a server error 'The URL 'themes' is invalid. It may refer to a
non existent file or folder, or refer to a file or folder that is not
in the current web'.

How can I make these folders and their contents appear in the local
web?
