Locate Hidden Files, remove read-only

I'm having trouble locating hidden files. I
accidenttally clicked on the 'hidden' box and my files
disappeared. Also I'm having trouble removing the 'read-
only' feature from a folder. I right-clicked on the
folder and clicked on preferences and clicked the read-
only box to remove but the feature is still there when I
try to save the file as another name. Help. Thanks.
