Location of an MS Project 2000 template

Is there a way to put an MS Project template somewhere other than the
"....\Templates" folder and have "File/New" find it as a template?

I have been asked to develop a standard template for my customer with
their basic high level tasks. The template also contains some VBA code
to tailor their default view to look consistent no matter who opens the
file(s).

I would like to be able to place this template (.MPT file ideally) in a
shared network folder. So far in my research, if I place the template
file anywhere other than the "....\Templates" folder, one has to use
"File/Open" to specifically open the .MPT template file, instead of
"File/New" then specifying the desired template.

Is this a limitation or is there a work-around or is my clue lamp just
burnt out today?

Hi Jennifer,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Well... Tools/Options.../Save tab has a Modify... button to allow you to
specify where templates are stored. You could try amending this.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: <http://www.mvps.org/project/>

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :))

I'd forgotten about that. Would I have to provide instructions to
every member of my customer's office on how to set this up, or is this
something that I can define/override via some VBA code or macro?

Hi JSL,

I would try it out first to see if it meets your requirements. As far as I
know, this setting relates to each PC rather than being project specific, so
I would expect to have to set it up on each one. I would have thought you
could give these simple instructions to each user along with the
instructions as to where to put the templates in the first place.

If I can't make it transparent, then things become difficult in dealing
with one of my customers (individual in question couldn't figure out
how to click on the drop-down menu I put into each cell of a column to
limit choices for filling out a form generated from a spreadsheet, even
with specific "click here" instructions.)
