Where do I put new or downloaded templates for Word 2007 (or Excel) so they
display in the menu of selections for a new document? Where are the templates
located???

In Vista, you can make them show up in Office Button | New | "my templates"
by saving them to C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates.
Not sure what the path is in Windows XP, but I'd guess something like
C:\Documents and Settings [user name]\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates.

Hello,

May I ask a follow-on question to this query. I have placed my company
templates in the Vista folder that you identified, which is My Templates.
When I do file/new the default of the blank document is hightlighted, which I
am guessing is the is the normal.potx file. Is that correct? If so, why are
my company templates not viewable in the same folder where this Blank
document and New blog post templates reside? Is it possible to have my
templates viewable in the same folder as the blank document and new blog post
templates? What is that path?

The blank PPT template is blank.potx.

http://www.echosvoice.com/2007/whatgoeswhere.htm may help.

It's not possible to get your templates to show up in that "blank and
recent" main pane when you go to File | New. After you use the templates a
couple of times, they should show up in the "recently used templates"
portion of that pane, though.

If you have a particular file you'd like to use as the blank.potx, you can
open the template or file and then Office Button | Save As. Name it
Blank.POTX, and choose PowerPoint Template (*.POTX) from the "save as type"
dropdown box. That takes you to this folder
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates Save Blank.POTX, and
when you open a new, blank file, it will be based on that template.
