I have a user that sits in an access database all day, at
the same time i have managers that want to be able to
access that data from another database through link
tables. is there a way around the lock file? the user is
in the file for 8-9 hours a day, as much as i have tried,
she doesn't like to close and reopen the database
because "it slows everything down"

please help

we are using access 2000, standard database (no security)

Hello Kris,

Is the database in question set to open Exclusive? You can check this in
Tools|Options|Advanced and look for the section labeled "Default Open Mode".
If it is opened exclusively, change the setting to "Shared".

Also, check with the network admin at your location and make sure that
permissions to the folder on the network where the database is located are
set to Full (Read, Write, Create, Delete, Execute). This is a requirement
for a database to be shared among multiple users.

As to performance, here is a very valuable link which discusses performance
issues with Access 2000. You may want to review it, as well.
