Lock my Excel file

L

Lisa

Hello,

I have created a spreadsheet that I would like to have
saved and locked, so that when a person attempts to access
this file they would need a password.

How do you advise?

To lock a document, go to Tools->Protection->Protect sheet, and give a
password.
To unlock a document, go to Tools->Protection->Unprotect sheet, and give the
password you entered before.

This advice only stops a person altering certain contents of a 'Sheet'.
It does not stop a person gaining access to a spreadsheet, which is what
the OP wanted to know.

As Frank Kabel rightly responded:
File > Save as > Tools > General options > Password to open.

Yes, I know this. I just simply felt like informing about this too, in case
the poster of the original question didn't know this. I'm sorry about this, I
should've made my point clear in my answer, but unfortunately I was too hasty
and forgot all about it. :D
