Lock on text file for link table

I have a link table that is linked to a read only text
file. Access seems to put a lock on the text file when I
only have permisson to read the file (I get the message
that file is used by another process). Is there any way
to prevent access from locking the file? How can it do
this if I only have read permission to the file?
