Lock Title Position (Appleworks command) in Excel

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I would like to keep the first column of data (actually labels) from scrolling off the screen as I move to the right.

In Appleworks spreadsheet, the command was
Tools>Lock Title Position

I've looked through the Excel help and have tried searching here. Thanks for any help

Search Excel 2004 Help for "freeze panes."

Or, in page break preview or normal view (not in page layout view), assuming
labels are in column A, select column B, and choose Window | Freeze Panes.
