Lock-Up after paste

[Word Lock-Up problems]

I've noticed that Office XP /2002 Word (and Excel) running
on Windows ME hangs whenever I paste a JPEG image into a
word document and then try to move it on the page. This
is replicable. The jpeg is not large maybe 64K-512K (note
it's not only 1 file) and the document itself is only 2-3
text pages.

I've unfortunately stumbled into this in Excel when I
wanted to use an AutoShape callout on one of my cells.
Again, nothing fancy, but click and insert callout and
then try to drag and drop it elsewhere and HANG!

What gives?

Hi Word,

My first inclination is to say that it could be a problem
with your graphics card driver. have you tried booting
WINDOWS in SafeMode, then testing whether the problem
persists?
