Locked Access File and Simply Accounting

I am using Simply Accounting 2004 for a computerized accounting course.
Every time I try to access the Payables Ledger for a certain company (Chai
Tea Room), a locked Microsoft Access File is created and the Payables Ledger
button will appear on the taskbar but will not maximize (the program sort of
locks up). I would like to know why this is happening and if I can stop this
access file from being created. It doesn't happen in any of the other data
files for other companies.

I'm only guessing here, because I'm not familiar with Simply Accounting,
although I have been told -- and your report indicates -- that it's
based on Microsoft Access, or at least uses an Access (Jet) database
file for storage.

I think what you are seeing is not a "locked Microsoft Access File", but
rather a "Microsoft Access Lock File". The file extension is "ldb".
This is a file that is created and managed by the database engine when
an Access database is opened for shared access. The lock file is used
to keep track of record and file locking information, so that users
don't step on each others changes. Normally, such a file is created
whenever you open an Access database, though there are cirucumstances in
which it won't be.

In your case, with Simply Accounting, probably the file is supposed to
be created, and is not the cause of your problem. I don't know, though,
why such a file wouldn't be created when you use other features of the
program, or work with other companies, so its presence *may* be a
symptom of something. I can't say what the cause of your problem may
be, so I suggest that you contact the manufacturers at
