"Locked" columns

Dear All,

I am having a problem with an Excel document that I've
inherited.

I don't know the correct Excel terminology, but I have
several columns on the left that appear to be locked from
being horizontally scrolled (there is a black line down
the right side of the right most column of this locked
group).

Can anyone tell me how to remove this function?

goto 'Windows - Freeze Panes' to disable this

Try (from the menu bar) :

Window / Unfreeze panes

If Unfreeze panes is not available ( the only Freeze panes is available)
try Window / Remove split
