Locked for editing

I am using Office Xp in Windows Xp.Sometimes I am getting the following
message while opening excel file stored in server. Message is "<Filename>
locked for editing" and suggest to open as read only. I can open same file
after rebooting the client machine. Same type of error is happening in the
case of Word also. Please suggest a solution
