Locked Out of Word 2000

While working on a Word document, I received this error
message "This program has performed an illegal operation
and wil be shut down".

I shut down the program and tried to reaccess Word. Now
I'm receiving this error message "Cannot find the file (or
one of it components). Make sure the path and fle name are
correct and that all required libraries are available.

What do I need to do? Should I re-install the program, if
I do that, will I lose all saved files?

You won't lose any data by reinstalling, but you're unlikely to accomplish
anything, either. See
