Suzanne

I have inhertied files from a former employee-she password
protected some critical databases-our system administrator
says the password cannot be overwritten.

Thanks,
Suzanne

Your administrator is correct in that there is nothing built-in to Access
that would allow you to change or remove a database password without knowing
the current password. There are, I hear, third parties who will do this, but
I do not have any details, and would be reluctant to share any information
even if I had any, as I would have no way to ensure that it would be used
only for legitimate purposes.

The best course of action is simply for your manager to contact the former
employee and ask for the password. If she refuses, have the company's legal
representative remind her that data recorded on behalf of the company, using
resources provided by the company, is the legal property of the company.
