Locked Powerpoint Presentation

A

asking

I had an old powerpoint file on my external hard drive. I copied it to
my desktop to open it but Powerpoint 2004 would not open it as the
original document was created with an older version of powerpoint. The
problem I have is that the presentation is locked and therefore I
cannot get it off my desktop. When I go to delete it I get an error
message saying that "The operation cannot be completed because the item
"xxxx.ppt" is locked.

I have tried to even copy it to another folder on my disk drive to
remove it from the desktop but it won't let me to that either, which is
ironic cause i obviously was able to copy it to get it onto the desktop
in the first place.

What I am asking therefore is does anyone know how I can delete a
locked powerpoint presentation from my desktop - i don't want to keep
the contents etc.

Have you tried restarting the computer, then trying to delete the presentation?

Indeed. I doubt this is it, but try launching Process Viewer (in
Applications:Utilities) to see if there's an orphaned instance of PowerPoint
running. If so, force quit it.

Unfortunately, didn't work. Any other ideas??

Only this, and forgive me if it's painfully obvious - I can only plead
PC-induced MacIgnorance:

Control+Click the icon and see if you can remove the checkmark next to Locked

Hi,

Control-click on the file's icon on the desktop. Choose GET INFO from
the pop-up menu. Click the disclosure triangle next to OWNERSHIP &
PERMISSIONS to see the options. Click the DISCLOSURE triangle next to
DETAILS.

Make sure that the Access settings are READ & WRITE.

This should fix the problem.
