locked word document

Help. Someone come to my rescue and tell me how to unlock
my word document. Every tome I open Word 2002 and try to
start a new document, I am not allowed to type or edit
anything. A message come up soyint that the document has
been locked from editing. Save me please.

Assuming you're not in "limited functionality mode" (which requires
activating Office XP), it might simply be locked for forms, comments or
tracked changes. Choose Tools - Unprotect Document. If that option isn't on
the menu, then try Help - Activate Product.
