Locking a form field to keep it from expanding.

I have created a form using tables, each segment is in a table field of its
own. It is all is working fine with the exception of one thing. If I hit
the Enter key in a field, the table field will expand one line for each press
of the Enter key. I have made the fields fix length and specified a height.
The form is protected so how can I keep the fields from expanding if the
enter key is hit? I am using Word 2003. I have searched the forum and I
don't see anything that pertains to my problem.

Most forms creators put such form fields in table cells with the row height
set to an exact amount. This won't prevent users from pressing Enter, but if
they have half a brain they'll get the message when their text starts to
disappear.

The fact that your fields are already in a table makes your job
easier.

If all the table rows should be the same height, you can select them
all and do the following step just once; otherwise, you'll need to
repeat it for each row.

Go to Table > Table Properties > Row. Check the box for "Specify
height" and set the height you want. Set the second dropdown to
"Exactly".

That will prevent the fields from expanding. If a user presses Enter
and continues to type, it won't be visible. Most users will get the
hint. If you extract the form data, though, the extra text will
be there, up to the maximum character count you set.

Thanks for the help. My form is set up in table fields but did not set the
height and width to exact, I'll give that a try.
