Locking a record without using the new record feature.

I have used the lock record that is not new function before. But how do I
lock a record after the initial data is entered, but the initial data might
not be entered when the record is first created. For example, a sales order
is generated by a salesperson and then he closed the record and has one of
the managers approve the order in the field for management approval. How do
I lock that approval record once it data has been entered? Thank you.

How does the record know who has reviewed it? Is there something that
management does that oly they can see that says, yep, this order is a go?

The manager (only 2) selects their name as who approved it. I want to lock
that field after they approved it for security purposes. They are the only
two that have access to insert data in the approval table

Lori,

I think you are misunderstanding my question. How does ACCESS know they are
managers? No eyeballs, so it can't see who they are. No voice recognition,
so can't hear their voices... You're going to need a trigger, something to
tell Access they are managers, what is that?
