Locking a Spreadsheet but allow inserting

I have a Buyers spreadsheet that the majority of it needs to be
locked/protected. The buyer can then type in the styles names, units, cost
of styles they want to buy..then a bunch of calculations are also on that
same row (e.g. cost * units).
So i don't want them changing column widths, fonts, or typing over formulas
so i want to lock it down excecpt for the few fields that are manual inputs.
But at times they may need to insert rows to add styles.

Can someone help me do this?

Hi,

1. Select the cells you want them to be able to enter data in and choose
Format, Cells, Protection, and uncheck Locked.
2. Choose Tools, Protection, Protect Sheet, and check Insert rows.

ok, that worked...but i need to give the users a little more flexiblity....i
have grouped columns that they need to be able to ungroup and re-group.

also, i need the user to be able to copy a chunk of rows (copy/insert/copied
cells) in order to add a style to the sheet but it won't let me

can you help me do that as well? is there a way you can see my file?

Hi,

When you open the Tools, Protection, Protect Sheet command you see all the
options you have under your control. To go beyond that you will need to
write a macro. There are two macro approaches, 1. Unprotect-do the
operation-reprotect, 2. use the userinterfaceonly option. For the first you
should start by recording a macro of what you want the users to do, then post
the code here and ask for help generalizing it. For both you may need VBA
user forms. Regardless, for any macro solution complete details would be
needed.

ok...i'm pretty good at recording macros by recording my key strokes...but
i'm curious as to what a VBA user form is?
