locking excel 2003 custom column width

Hi. Thanks for helping. How can I lock in the custom column width
adjustments that I have done with my cursor? When I change the column width,
save the file, then re-open the file, my column widths have all gone back to
a standard width. I would like to save my custom widths. Thanks...
