Locking Records not working

Dear Group,

I have a multiuser Access 2003 MDB database connected to an ODBC
mapped SQL Server database. Only forms, reports, and queries are kept
in the Access part.

I'm having a problem with record locking. In a form's property list
dialog, the Record Locks property set to "Edited Record". I think
(but am not sure) that this corresponds to the Form.LockEdits property
set to TRUE.

However, the multiuser record lock seems not to work. I'd expect if a
user is editing a record, that a second user would see a "Slash-O" on
the record selector when perusing that record. (see Letwin, et.al.
Access 2002 Enterprise Developer's Handbook, pg 35) This is not
happening.

The global setting (Tools|Options|Default Record Locking) is set to
"Edited Record" but I remember reading that this flag is not used in
my database configuration.

Has this functionality changed in Access 2003 or am I not setting
something correctly?

Thanks,
Max
