Locking Row 1

This seems like Day 1 of Excel-type stuff, but I have my titles in Row
1 and I want that to lock so when I scroll, those titles stay put.

Please tell me the obvious.

Click in A2 then go Window|Freeze Panes

That did not work. I tried freezing row 1, row 2, cel A1 and cel A2.
I want to be able to scroll down and have row 1 remain on screen.

If you are wanting column A and rows 1 and 2 to be frozen, then...

Go Window|Unfreeze Panes, then select B3 then go Window|Freeze Panes

No go. Would the fact that I have it in split screen mode screw it
up? I hope my request is clear. I want Row 1 to lock into position
so when I scroll, it always shows no matter if I am down to Row 150 or
Row 2500.

That's the problem - you can't use Freeze Panes & Split on the same sheet
simultaneously.

I must have a split screen. Can I redefine column names from A, B, C,
etc. to the titles that I want?

No, you can't do that, but try this as one possibility:

With your file open go to Window> New Window. Then go to Window> Arrange...>
Horizontal. That will give you 2 separate windows on the same workbook.
Adjust the respective heights to your liking & just use the upper window to
display your Captions, use the lower window for your split screen working
window. If you need to use the configuration routinely, save it as a
workspace.
