You don't bother to mention what version of Word you're using but your
allusion to "locking styles" suggests that it is a PC version. This is the

Regardless, I'm afraid your message is lacking sufficient detail to know
what it is you're trying to accomplish or what may be preventing it. Make
sure you clarify what "sources" you're referring to as well as how you've
gone about trying to set things up, how you're generating the TOC, etc.
Nobody in either group has any more to go on than what you provide in your
description of the situation.
